The COVID-19 pandemic forced an abrupt shift in university teaching from face-to-face to online formats, with effects on student engagement that remain unclear.”
This cross-sectional quantitative study explores the difference that exists in the students' self-perception of their academic engagement in both environments. The total number of informants was 238 (176 women and 62 men), undergraduate students from two institutions: private and public. The Utrech Work Engagement Scale (UWES-S 9) developed by Schaufeli & Bakker (2004) was applied to find a significant difference in means between the face-to-face and virtual format of -11.46, according to the Wilcoxon test, with p = .0001
